- Dell to offer Ubuntu on some of their machines, in the United States.
- Intel partners with Ubuntu to create an open source platform for mobile devices.
- Sun Microsystems completes the release of Java under the GPLv2.

An IT consultant I know told me about six months ago that he believed that open source was going to be the next big thing. I would still consider myself skeptical that the industry is willing to embrace it fully, but that skepticism has slowly been sliding.
